About

My name is August Frank. I am a photojournalist currently working at the Gillette News Record in Gillette, Wyo. I got my start in journalism at Lane Community Colleges newspaper The Torch as their photo editor.

I transferred to the University of Oregon to pursue a degree in journalism. At the UO I contributed photos to kval.com of various events from the Olympic Trials to a Polar Plunge event. I worked on the climate change reporting project Science and Memory. And I was a photographer for 2016 edition of Flux Magazine and the photo editor for the 2017 edition.

In my time as a journalist I have had the chance to tell the usual reporting stories. But then I have also had the chance to tell long form stories of individuals. These stories include a pianist using his music to heal, the life of a paralympian after competing in Rio, and a women rebuilding her life after years of addiction, abuse, and incarceration.

Through all of these stories I have been reminded of the importance of telling stories, the role journalism needs to play in a community, and how to take a human approach to my own journalism.
